I worked on biology at an advanced level to obtain Honors in this subject, delving in chapters such as Ecology, The Building Blocks of Life, Cell Biology, Cellular Processes, Molecular Genetics, Heredity, The Evolution of Life, Taxonomy, The Human Body I and The Human Body II. A diverse group of experienced teachers have guided me through the syllabus through video lectures and assignments. An emphasis on interpreting figures and data displays has increased my understanding of information presented in a scientific way. As these courses were mostly online on Time4Learning and Khan Academy, I completed a fair number of classes, exercises and assignments with good grades. I’ve been able to do online virtual labs through the Edgenuity platform and this is a good addition to my real-life observations and experiments.

I explored the forests as well as urban nature in and around Paris to study the different aspects of life and earth sciences. I participated in regular conferences, workshops and visits organized by Maison Paris Nature, La ferme de Paris and Les Etincelles. I observed lots of rocks and minerals in nature as well as in man-made constructions. The Mineralogy Museum at the Jardin des Plantes was one of my favorite museums in Paris, as well as the Paleontology Gallery.

I was able to contribute to Citizen Science projects such as Lichen-Go on several occasions and using the key provided online, it was easy for me to identify the different types of lichen I found during my observation and measurement. I had also contributed to the butterfly and bee count online around the Nelson Mandela Garden near my house. I observed bacteria, diatoms, rotifers, tardigrades and fungal life (from French cheese) microscope. I attended quite a few biology conferences at Les Etincelles, given by passionate experts around themes like the Seine River microscopic life (Biology department) as well as meteorites (geology department). I used a lot of online resources to book the different conferences, outings, log in data for Citizen Science projects and even to reserve specialized books. The books I read are : La nature 120 Decouvertes Scientifiques, by Gilles Harpoutian, Fossils, by Cyril Walker and David Ward, Mineraux et Roches, by Albert Streckeisen, Histoire Naturelle, by Dorling Kindersley, and L’anthologie Illustrée des Dinosaures Incroyables, by Professor Anusuya Chinsamy-Turan.
