I have been reading a lot on Quantum Physics and Astrophysics and some government-research YouTube channels definitely piqued my interest in this incredibly fascinating field of study. I have gotten a better grasp of the complex notions in quantum physics and astrophysics through the numerous YouTube channels available online fantastic lectures by world-famous researchers and university professors.
I also did a week-long internship in the Research Department of Thales Velizy which specializes in Particle Accelerators, and I attended a week-long Science Festival at the Jussieu Campus of the Sorbonne University, with a particular focus on visits and workshops at the two quantum-physics labs there.
My internship at the Particle Accelerator lab of Thales with Henri Kraft, has been a very good experience. Although it lasted only a week, the days were long and very well-planned and I got to observe, converse and learn from so many experts in this field. I was also allowed to handle sensitive material, work on particle-accelerator apps and 3D print a model I designed with their help.
I had learnt a lot during my internship as this allowed me to spend time with and shadow a researcher. I was also given the chance to discover everyday life in the corporate world in a field that is of great interest, while meeting different people with unique profiles and visions, including several women and people of color as top engineers and researchers.
As for the labs I visited during the Science Festival Week, I was excited to meet with researchers in their fields and learnt a lot about Nuclear Physics, Astrophysics (The Big Bang timeline, the role of neutrinos in the universe and so on). I also saw, for the first time in my life, a Wilson Cloud Chamber where one can observe cosmic rays in real time.
